In 1498 Santo Domingo was founded (by Spain) in nowadays Dominican Republic and it is the oldest continuously inhabited European established settlement.


In 1607 (109 years after Santo Domingo) Jamestown was established as the oldest settlement in the original thirteen colonies comprising the United States of America

Spain established Saint Augustine in 1565, becoming the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the Continental United States.

Hampton, 1607, was established as the first permanent English settlement in the present-day United States.
